Elounda is a marvelous place located in eastern Crete and more specificly in Agios Nikolaos. Before you enter the city of Agios Nikolaos just follow the signs to Elounda to go there. On your way to Elounda you will be rewarded with a truly marvelous view. If you are lucky and the weather is good (which is most likely), just stop your car and relax, it is really worth the time. Elounda has a lot of luxury hotels for the tourists to stay and it’s sure to cover your needs if what you need is to relax along the sea but in the same time not to be too isolated. It is not a place for  somebody who wants to party all day long though. But if you are the type of person that likes to eat great traditional crete cuisine alongside the sea, then Elounda is perfect for you.

If you go to Elounda, you simply can not skip visiting Spinalonga. Spinalonga is the lepper island. Cretan leppers where sent there to live the rest of their lives. They developed a small society in the island and carried on with their lives forced to forget their loved ones. This story has touched many artists and writers like Victoria Hislop, who even wrote a book about Spinalonga. To reach the island, just take the boat from Agios Nikolaos, Elounda or Plaka.

If you arrive in the airport of Chania, just follow the signs to Souda. Once you arrive in Souda, follow the signs to Heraklion to get in the highway. Once in the highway it will take about 3,5 hours to reach Elounda. If on the other hand you arrive in the airport of Heraklion just follow the signs to Agios Nikolaos and you will arrive in Elounda after 1 hour more or less.
