Day 1: Heraklion to Archanes

Start your road trip in Heraklion, the largest city on the island. Spend a few hours exploring the city’s archaeological museum, the Venetian fortress of Koules, and the lively food markets before heading to the picturesque village of Archanes.
Archanes is located just 15 km south of Heraklion and is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved villages in Crete. This small village is home to traditional stone houses, winding streets, and beautiful views of the surrounding hills and vineyards. Spend the afternoon wandering the village’s cobblestone streets, exploring the local shops, and trying some of the local wines at one of the local tavernas.

Day 2: Archanes to Anogia
Start your day with a traditional Cretan breakfast at one of the local cafes in Archanes. Try some of the local pastries, such as kalitsounia or bougatsa, and some of the local cheeses, such as graviera and kefalotyri.
After breakfast, head to the nearby village of Anogia. This mountain village is located at an altitude of 750 meters and is known for its traditional Cretan music and textiles. Spend the morning exploring the village’s narrow streets, visiting the local museums, and learning about the local traditions and customs.
For lunch, head to one of the local tavernas and try some of the traditional Cretan dishes. Some of the must-try dishes include lamb kleftiko, which is slow-cooked lamb with herbs and vegetables, and stifado, which is a stew made with beef, onions, and red wine.

Day 3: Anogia to Spili

The drive to Loutro from Spili takes you through the stunning Imbros Gorge. This gorge is a popular hiking destination, and you can opt to hike it if you have the time and energy. The drive itself is also beautiful, with plenty of scenic overlooks and winding roads.
Once you arrive in Loutro, you’ll find yourself in a tranquil and picturesque fishing village. The village is car-free, which makes it a peaceful place to explore on foot. There are a few small hotels, tavernas, and shops in Loutro, as well as a beautiful pebble beach. Spend the day lounging on the beach, swimming in the clear waters, and soaking up the sun.

Day 5: Loutro to Chora Sfakion

After breakfast in Loutro, take a boat to the nearby village of Chora Sfakion. This small village is located on the southern coast of Crete and is known for its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters.
Spend the day lounging on the beach, swimming, and snorkeling.
